Letter of Interest Submission Due Date: January 9, 2024 by 5:00 PM

The Commission is releasing a Request for Letters of Interest to county behavioral health departments and community-based organizations to pilot efforts to grow the number of medical personnel who can prescribe medications for addiction treatment.

The intent of this project is to offer a total of $16 million spread among three various-sized counties over a three-year period to supplement costs associated with the addition of medical prescribers in both residential and non-residential specialty SUD treatment settings. The addition of these prescribers will enable specialty SUD treatment agencies to better meet the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria by offering medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Technical assistance and training will be offered to the selected programs to provide support and promote program sustainability. These funds are made available through the Mental Health Wellness Act (MHWA). The Commission has prioritized MHWA funding to assist programs in meeting state of California standards and to increase access to SUD treatment and services.
