NEW CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR ELECTED FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES OVERSIGHT AND ACCOUNTABILITY COMMISSION

 

Sacramento—The Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission is pleased to announce the election of current Vice Chair Tina Wooton to Chair and Commissioner John Boyd to Vice Chair. The terms begin January 2017 and will be effective for one year. The election took place Thursday, October 27 at the Commission meeting in Sacramento.

Tina Wooton, serving as Vice Chair in 2016, has been a Commissioner since 2010 and lives in Santa Barbara.  Chair-elect Wooton has worked in the mental health system for 23 years, advocating for consumers and family members at the local, state and federal levels.  Since 2009 she has served as the Consumer Empowerment Manager for the Santa Barbara County Department of Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services and was staff to the state Mental Health Services Act Implementation Team for several years.

John Boyd, Psy.D., has been on the Commission since 2013.  He is chief executive officer of Sutter Solano Medical Center and Sutter Center for Psychiatry since 2014. He was chief administrative officer of Sutter Health’s Sacramento Sierra Region Behavioral Health Services and Continuing Care, including Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, from 2008 to 2014. Vice Chair-elect Boyd is a fellow at the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Outgoing Chair Victor Carrion will be stepping down from the Commission December 31, 2016.  Dr. Carrion has been a Commissioner since 2011 and has been Chair of the Commission for the last two years. Dr. Carrion will continue as a Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine and as the Director of Stanford’s Early Life Stress Research Program.  He is a board certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, practicing at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.
