Suicide awareness is critical in Plumas County

People kill themselves. It has been happening for a long time. But in the opinion of a local mother, Dana Mollison, it can have an especially heavy impact on small rural areas where people’s lives are so intertwined.

“We had two suicides in Westwood a couple months ago, then one at Chester High and another at Lassen,” said Mollison. It took a real toll on her kids. Her oldest daughter, age 15, said to her mother, “Mom, you told me high school was going to be hard, but you didn’t say it was gonna be this hard.”

The mother of six said that four of her children who are in high school and junior high were especially affected by the suicides of teenage friends and friends of friends.
