In Long Beach, economic recovery leaves many on the streets: Guest commentary

Even as we celebrate the state’s steady economic recovery from the GreatRecession, the fact remains that over 115,000 Californians still have no place to call home.

The communities of Long Beach and San Pedro — which I have the honor of representing in the state Assembly — are no strangers to the homeless epidemic.

One recently released report showed homelessness increased in the South Bay and harbor area by 39 percent during the past two years, with San Pedro bearing much of the impact.
